Overview
This course will be an advanced reading course covering various fields of new media. Participants will discuss state-of-the-art conference papers to be presented at the European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS, www.ecis2005.de), May 26-28, 2005 ahead of time. Participants will be REQUIRED to then travel to the conference in Regensburg, Germany, and meet and discuss with the authors of the papers as well as the other members of the global community.

Preview versions of the papers will be distributed during the first session on April 21, 2005. Up to two students may work on the same papers.
Students will have to summarize the papers, thoroughly discuss the research procedures and the main arguments, cross-check with some of the references in the paper and also with other papers written by the same authors and critically analyze the author(s)' findings over time.
During the conference, students will then have to meet with the author(s), this will be pre-organized by Prof. Loebbecke.

 

Dates and Location
April 21, 2005, 15:15-16:45 in Cologne.
May 10, 2005, 10:15-11:45 in Cologne.

May 26-28, 2005 in Regensburg at ECIS 2005 (attendance at the conference is REQUIRED).

The location details of the first two sessions will be sent to the registrants by eMail.

 

Admission - Certification
The course is open to everyone; however, travel to Regensburg, accommodation and conference fee has to be covered by the participant. Successful participants will receive a "Ln-Schein" in Media Management.

 

Written reports
The reports should cover:

Suggestion regarding the number of words: 3500 words. Please hand in three printed copies and a diskette or CD-ROM by May 8, 2005 at 12:00 at the Department of Media Management, University of Cologne, Pohligstr, 1, 50969 Cologne.

Grading
Grading will be based on written reports (60%), class presentation (20%), and class participation (20%).
