Overview
This course investigates the future impacts of
information technology in a variety of contexts. Much research in current and
future IT impacts is based upon a large firm, product-based US model. In
contrast, this course considers other contexts such as the public sector,
education, health, charities, small firms, and communities. It also assesses a
wider set of tools and techniques beyond the typical operational/strategic
system focus – for example e-communications (for example, CEO blogs, corporate
e-mail), virtual team working, mobile implementations, e-enabled supply networks
and knowledge sharing.
The course is
structured around group work on themes and tools. After an introductory session,
participants will work in teams on the impacts on their chosen sector or of
their chosen technology. Each group will be provided with a comprehensive set of
background context, literature sources and web resources in advance of the
course. The course leader will work with each group to explore their domain.
Teams will then develop position papers and a presentation to share with all
participants.
The course will be taught in ENGLISH!
Preparation before the first session is not necessary.
