Overview
The course will cover the 'Internet of Things' (IoT) and IoT-enabled applications in various segments within media and telecom industries. The seminar focus will lie on creating business value and enabling new business models.

Dates

• 29th of April, 1.30 pm – 5.00 pm Mandatory kick-off and group formation, introduction, basic IoT technology, use cases
• 3rd of June, 1.30 pm – 5.00 pm Value creation and new business models by IoT usage and applications
• 8th of July, 1.30 pm – 5.00 pm Group presentations and discussions
• 15th of July, 1.30 pm – 5.00 pm Follow-up on group presentations, summary, food for thought
• 19th of July Submission on written reports (formal details to follow in due time)

Grading / Credit Points

Grading will be based on

• Pre-assignment: 30%
• Project presentation: 30% (topics will be handed out during the course, presentation during the course)
• Project report: 40% (topics and deadline - after the last session - will be given out during the course)

Group Project

• Cover slide with project title, all names, study program, and exam numbers (1 slide)
• Overview of IoT applications / use cases in the sector / segment (1-2 slides)
• Build a value creation framework (1 slide)
• Use your framework to describe the value creation for three different applications (how does the application create value) (3x2 slides)
• Name value creation enablers and barriers per application (1 slides showing the comparison)
• Conclude with a brief outlook on business models and new opportunities in your project field (1 slide)

For all slides: Dark writing on light background, READABLE!, nothing that disappears by animation, minimum font size Arial 20,
no copying of pdfs etc – rather redraw
Deadline: July 6, 11am, per eMail to all group members (sMail) AND Dr. Wolfram AND claudia.loebbecke<at>uni-koeln.de
Presentation: Max 25 minutes - sequence will be drawn!

Final Report (Group)
Write about 2000 words offering your group presentation as a text (include figures / tables from your slides, but not complete slides) –
feel free to correct things after the group presentation in class
Add about 800 words reflecting "your" IoT applications against one of the other two segments covered by one of the other groups.
Do not include the other group's slides etc, but take a few insights and elaborate why those insights also apply (or do not apply) in your segment.
THIINK, ANALZYE, REFLECT
External references etc. need to be cited properly, we prefer scientific sources over text books over any kind of consulting slides or reports.
